When Marfa, Texas's well-known artist Donald Judd died in 1994, he left behind a lasting mystery regarding the intent and thought process of his art. Today, the city has evolved into a mecca for contemporary art, architecture, and installations of Judd's work, currently maintained by the Chianti Foundation and the Judd Foundation.
The Judd Foundation requested Peter Zweig's architecture studio to publish a book regarding Donald Judd's 15 Untitled Works in Concrete. I worked with Peter through my research, photography, and design following a trip to Marfa to help realize this request. After extensively studying the works both in person, and reviewing photographs and Judd's history, we were able to assemble a cohesive book that enhanced his esoteric work. Ultimately, the readers of this publication are expected to sequentially understand Judd's design process.
