Jealous of your Landfill. A lifetime of waste.

  • Jealous of your Landfill
    A lifetime of waste.
  • The information i gathered in order to make the coffee video (below), made me particularly interested in the topic of waste. I feel this topic has become a bit of a cliché and therefore I wanted to find a way to make people aware of waste in a different way.
Through developing this idea further, I decided to focus on the aspect of awareness and understanding of what happens to your waste once you throw it away.

My purpose is creating a way of keeping track of your own personal waste. We usually get information about how much a country produces but it is hard to relate this to your own consumption. Therefore I created a system to help any person keep track of their personal waste production.

  • Film strip of a research-based video about the alternative uses for coffee beans.
Taking a close look at the possibility of creating Bio-fuel from the waste of coffee grounds.
This was the starting point to this project.
  • This bin bag role is designed for the consumer to keep track of their own waste production in the most efficient way.
It contains an inside flap with info-graphics specially designed to help raise awareness of our own consumption.
  • Every Bag in this role has a capacity of 120 L. For every bag we pull out of this role, the number of liters will add up.
This will ideally allow the consumer to have a better understanding of the amount of waste produced since the purchase of this bin bag role.
  • This is a small scale representation of what this scale/bin would ideally look like.
Having a scale/bin is a way for the consumer to have an unlimited consumption-tracking system.
These images are screenshots of a short clip produced in Adobe After Effects to aid the understanding of how this object would function.
This works in a similar way to the bin bags, adding up your waste amount except this time it is done automatically by a scale incorporated at the bottom of the bin.
Unlike the bin bags, this does not have the disadvantage that when the bin bag role is finished you are back to zero. The bin is programmed to add up the kg’s/lbs.’ you have produced ever since you acquired the bin.

This item is a work in progress.
