Ipad App Design: Yoga Journal
- Ipad App Design
- This is a theoritical ipad app design for one of my favorite magazines, Yoga Journal.Creating this app, I learned a lot about interactivity/experience design. One of the biggest challanges was creating a project that functioned, not as a print magazine or a website, but in an interactive way unique to ipad apps. The aesthetics and inspiration for the app was based on the design elements of the print magazine. The interactive capabilites, navigation and most other elements were of my invention. This app design is a student project and is in no way professionally, commercially or legally related to Yoga Journal.
This is the title page and the first screen seen after the app is opened.
The user can tap your subscription or your sequence to navigate to other pages. Tapping magazine moves you to the screen below.
This is a table of contents to the unique contents of this month's app edition.
Tapping on Monthly Practice or Yoga Directory will direct the user to those screens. Each of the article titles link to their page.
This screen is accessed by tapping "your sequence" on the first page. It is a personal sequence created as the user reads the magazine. When they encounter a new position during their reading, they may add it to the sequence. From this screen one can rearrange they sequence by dragging and moving the thumbnail boxes.
The user can slide up the bottom of the screen to view more positions. The music player, intended to allow users to listen to soothing music while practicing yoga, may be dragged down into view or pushed up into hidding from the top left corner. Clicking on the maroon arrow in the top left opens up the navigation bar.
This screen shows the navigation bar pulled open.
This same bar can be accessed on any screen by pressing the maroon arrow. Tapping step by step leads to the screen below.
This page of the personal sequence can be navigated by dragging on the left and right pages of the screen. Double tapping on a photo or using the navigation bar will lead you to the next screen.
This is a video mode of the personal sequence. It transforms the screen into landscape mode to better view the video.
This screen allows the user to access other month's editions they have purchased and purchase more.
The editions can be looked through by draggin on the right side of the screen within the colored bars. The top bar has photos form the current edition. The middle bar has unpurcased editions. The bottom bar has editions purchased by the user. Tapping on the icons allow you to either buy or view the editions. Tapping on the photos will show the edition name (ie "February 2011")
Clicking on Yoga Places will lead you the screen below.
This screen is inspired by a feature of the print magazine- the yoga directory. It allows the viewer to search for yoga studios, resorts and shops by category and by city. It also allows the user to view the rankings of other Yoga Journal app users and rank the locations themselves.
Clicking on the icon next to more info will lead to more detailed infomation about the location. Clicking on Studios, Resorts, or Shops filters the search results. More photos can be sceen by dragging on the right side of the screen within the colored boxes.
The Montly Practice feature is updated with a new spotlighted yoga practice every edition.
Users may add a pose to their sequence by tapping on the purple icon.
