This video entitled Take a Long walk off a short Pier was my submission for the 2013 ID4 competition. The overall theme for all categories was Concrete Circus, and the sub-theme for the video category was Heritage Matters. The aim of the video was to promote eThekwini and focus on a building or structure of value that you feel should be preserved or restored as the competition was being run in conjunction with the KZNIA.

The concept of the video incorporates both themes with a short journey along one of Durban's piers. Along the way you meet various characters from different walks of life and each is portrayed as a different member of the circus.

I chose to focus on Durban's piers as structures of particular significance because not only are the piers iconic of Durban, but I personally have benefited from and enjoyed them, making use of them since I was a child. I know the same goes for many others who also derive much pleasure from them, be it in the form of a romantic stroll, shortcut to backline, fish on, etc...
