    BMTC Route Search app

    The Bangalore Metropolitan TransportCorporation (BMTC) is a government agency that operates the intercity public transport bus service in Bangalore,India. As a part of my Interaction Design course I explored the site work flowsavailable for route search in http://bmtcinfo.com/ site and tried to make the app for route search procedure, so as togive end user an easy and simple interface for planning the intercity travel.The app provides all the local bus information for Bangalore.


    Features
    • Itallows the user to input address in the route search instead of only option toselect bus stops.
    •  Providessuggestion list as user types the address.  
    • Mostof the similar applications searches only for the direct bus routes i.e. bothsource and destination should be covered by the same bus which is a seriousrestriction given possibility of indirect routes is very high. BMTC Routes isthe application that can search for the indirect routes with high degree ofprecision.  
    • Providesa very intuitive UI. Since the application is targeted to both technical andnon-technical users, the simplified UI is key requirement.  
    • Providesa list of routes from source to destination. •Providesthe distance from Source to Destination. 
    • Providesthe route information to the user.Providesa Route Map to the user from source to destination by drawing the route
  • Problem Faced while using BMTC service online
     
  •  
    IfSource or Destination is not bus stop name then no results are provided. 
    • Eventhough the user inputs correct address he will not get any results. This makesit mandatory forall usersto know the bus stop names in advance. Hence the site is difficult to use forvisitor to the city ornew travelersfrom the city.
  • Other Problem while using BMTC site

    •  The results are not displayed in intuitive, easy to understand and  informative manner.
    •  Bus Schedule” and “Route Map” available only after clicking on respective  links. Hence difficult to understand to new internet users.
    •  No Bus fare details. 
    •  No Distance details.
    •  No graphical presentation.
  • Proposed Redesign
     
    Redesigned the hierarchy model to Flat model, so as to enhance following workflows:
    Ø    Route Search mechanism available on HomePage!
    Ø    Provision to input Address in the Route Search instead of only option to select Bus Stops!
    Ø    Traffic details available on HomePage!
    Ø    Double the space available for News & update! Or the extra space can be used for other purpose!
    Ø    No loss of information!
    Ø    Improved usability!!
    Ø    Improved search interface!!
    Ø    No multilevel navigation required for retrieving information!!

  • Mobile Application workflow with Interaction Pattern
  • 1.The user taps on an applogo toopen it.
  • 2.A blank page with a progress wheel isdisplayed, showing the user that the content is loading.
  • 3.CurrentLocation is automatically detected
  • 4.When the search bar is launched oractivated, the text field is selected, and a cursor is displayed, indicating the user canstart typing.

    5.When the text field is tapped, thekeyboardcomes up automatically.

  • 6. When the user starts typing, suggestionsare presented.
    7.When the query has been made, the resultsare displayed in a list.
  • 8.When the keyboard is hidden, the screen returns to its original position and the entered text is displayed in the input field.
  • 9.After selecting sourceand destination corresponding content is displayed.

    10.By double tapping, the user can zoom inon a specific point on the map and can move the map.
  • 11.User can search busroot for different location then editcurrent location..
  • 12.Auto suggested drop- down For faster entry input.

    13.When the text field is tapped, the keyboardcomesup automatically.
  • 14.When the keyboard is hidden, the screenreturns to its original position and the entered text is displayed in the inputfield.
  • 15.On top of the screen a horizontal set of tabs islocated, each representing a section in the app. By default, the leftmost tab is selected.

    16.Whenthe user scrolls up thelist the remaining list of direction is loaded.
  • 17.The user selects anothersection and the corresponding content is loaded and displayed.
