The poster’s imagery straddles the line between abstraction and representation. The issue of political killings may be abstract to those who are far removed from the situation, but for those who know the victims and/or are themselves activists, the threat of abduction, torture and death are very real.
Ronel Raguing was a farmer and civilian in Negros Oriental. Witnesses said that he and another farmer were seized by soldiers and brought to a wooded area last February 2009, and not seen since. Their bodies were found more than a month later, their hands tied behind their backs.

This poster is a part of FACT SHEET: Activism is Not a Crime, a group show about human rights violations in the Philippines, featuring 30 artists from the U.S. and the Philippines.
