This project we were to take an ordinary object and depict it in an extraordinary way. I chose the ordinary object of a goldfish, but rather than the typical little fish in its big glass fishbowl, I chose to extraordinarily portray the fish as being too big for its bowl! Gouache was the medium of choice, and this was actually my first time really using it for a project in this manner. My previous experience wasn't very pleasant, but in this case I was able to really water it down an make it almost a watercolor texture.
I ended up having a ton of fun with this. After outlining my image in Sharpie Pen, I layered bright and playful colors to create the watery, delicate representation of a goldfish, but still keeping it cartoonish. I kind of just went with it. I am pleased with the final product, and will definitely be using gouache more often in my illustrations!
