On April 19, 2011 a round of straight-line winds tore through Centralia, IL and severely damaged the Illinois Central Car Shops.  I documented this destruction to capture the realities of natural disaster, however, the images became more than this.  Two days after I photographed the scene the rail car shops were completely dismantled.  In this I reflect the philosophy of John Szarkowski who said, “Photography alludes to the past and the future only in so far as they exist in the present, the past through it’s surveying relics, the future through prophecy visible in the present.”
