  • Ijon Tichys Stardiaries are a collection of essays writen by Stanislaw Lem in the 60s. They tell stories of the astronaut Ijon Tichy who is traveling time and space to explore and analyze foreign lifeforms, who often enough only reflect human social structures. While fairly popular in the eastern hemisphere Stanislaw Lems classical literature never quite got the attention in the western world that it should have gotten.

I made it my goal for my thesis to translate the stories and into a visual world and  produce a new edition of the book. After I settled the general mood somewhere between Jules Verne and Perry Rhodan I developed a type area, grid and picked the typographical elements to complement the style of the overall appearence.

The illustrations where then created in C4D with heavy postproduction in PS. Even though I did not finish all 700 pages in my 6 weeks of work I am fairly satisfied with the outcome.
