IF PARADISE IS HALF AS NICE
An analog spacehacking exhibition by
Pim Palsgraaf & Daan Botlek
This exhibition is the result of a project by Pim Palsgraaf and Daan Botlek in which they used an old abandoned industrial complex and turned it into a temporary work- and exhibition space. Drawn by a shared fascination for abadoned places and decaying areas we wanted to find out what it would be like to work in such an environment for a designated amount of time. Eventually, after exploring several locations, we settled down in the old 'VEB Textile Verpackungsmittel Weida' factory in Plagwitz (Leipzig, Germany).
Pim Palsgraaf, Rotterdam (NL)

The paintings reveals us the clandestine interior of cities. Deserted rooms, damp corridors and ceilings in danger to collapse at any time show his weakness for urban decline, for the natural environment of man slowly sinking into oblivion. The sculptures of Pim Palsgraaf show the outgrowths of urban architecture. Comparable to tumours of urban growing he drapes found objects on taxidermy animals to symbolize the contrary of culture and nature. The city seems to overcome the animal and to bring it to its knees.
Daan Botlek, Rotterdam (NL)
Daan Botlek has a background in illustration, wall painting and patterndesign. Fascinated by psychology and human interaction his main subject is the human character. With humor and alienation as the main ingredients he approaches the human body as an object that he molds into different shapes. Concerning wall paintings he carefully chooses locations which will suit his work best, or creates images that will add to the designated area. This results in images with a strong narrative and metaphorical tone. Read Less
