I conceived, designed, developed, and promoted IdRatherEat.com. It presents two food photographs and asks the user to choose which picture they like better. After several rounds, it gives the user some preliminary statistics about their food preferences, compared to the site at large. The user is then invited to view their full statistics, which consist of a dynamically generated bar graph of their votes in each food category plotted against the entire site. Based on their performance, they are told of areas where they might have biases - ie a preference for cupcakes over steaks.
This site was created entirely in Wordpress despite having no blogging charactertistics whatsoever. I designed a custom plugin that sits atop of Wordpress's media upload to capture each image's taxonomy, descriptive information, and filename into a separate database. I then wrote several functions to create statistics and generate the graph for each user.
The site was promoted with Stumbleupon and Facebook. On Stumbleupon, it has an 87% thumbs-up rating. While it is an entertaining game for users, the site actually gives me important analytics on which food photographs are most desirable to users and promotes my food site Good Taste Photography. I then use this information to select upcoming photos for GoodTastePhotography.com.
