ITURRIBIDE'S URBAN STRUCTURE
Bilbao, Spain
The requirements established by the client were to fulfill two tasks: on the one hand, the new structure was to connect two street levels separated by a 13 meters high wall, and to do so as to eliminate any architectural barrier; on the other hand, the new structure had to respond to a high level of neighborhood safety concerns provoked by the presence of residual spaces and an inadequate level of lighting.

Given those premises, our proposal includes a public elevator and a public stair. The nature of the whole intervention relies on lightness and light, with a staircase layout which tries to be comfortable and smooth while avoiding the appearance of any residual, unnecessary spaces. The use of steel responds to those intentions as well, as it is light, highly permeable to light, and offers and integral solution with efficient construction times.
