IN_situ is a physical computing device
that uses 3D visualization layered with live video to present a street level
view of a future architectural project before the sod has been turned. It works
as a magic window that allows a user to peer into the future and see unbuilt buildings
in the here and now using a 3D model of the structure tied in with live video
images of the surrounding streetscape. IN_situ is used on-site at a chosen
location to provide a sense of immediacy and connectedness to that environment and
the impression of being able to see into the future or past while physically
experiencing the location in the present.
IN_situ presents an augmented reality;
a mix of concrete and digital synced together. It merges digital media
including 3D models with live video shot directly from the viewer's perspective
to create a new vision of our urban landscape. While using IN_situ we are
empowered to experience in the here and now a vision of a reality that is not
yet built or one that has long since crumbled away.
