WILD FRUITS OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is situated in the south-eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, is a relatively small country with an area of 83, 600 km2. Most of the country is comprised of desert which is part of a vast sea of sand called Rub’ al Khali or the Empty Quarter, which is the largest sand desert in the world. Despite the size and nature of its habitats, the UAE has a wide variety of flowering plant life that has evolved in a magnificent way to survive in the harsh environment. In the UAE, more than 650 flowering plant species can be found. In this calendar for 2013, 12 wild fruits belonging to different species have been shown to illustrate the variety of the plant life present in the UAE.
