IBW (iBeatWalmart) wanted to build a platform where small and local businesses could promote their companies and connect with socially conscience consumers looking for alternatives to big-box retail chains. In addition to logo brand and web design IBW contracted me to create a fun & versatile mascot (or character design) that they could use for both web and print materials such as email blasts, advertisements, product videos and their print publication. They wanted the mascot to be a young, stylish, approachable and enthusiastic small business owner with an old-style "Open for Business Sign" that complimented the bold orange color pallet they had me create. Completely vector drawn, I created over a dozen core character variations for versatility and ease of use. I've included several examples of the IBW mascot variations below.

The first character design is the main iBeatWalmart mascot used in most identity materials. Loosely based on the likeness of IBW's owner, the mascot stands with his hand on his hip displaying an "Open for Business" sign.

One of IBW's main product features is their local business, product and coupon search, so designing a character variation holding up a magnifying glass was one of their main requests. This mascot version was to be used when describing search features, integrated to the search pages and any other scenarios when their online search was being referenced.

This character design was to be one of the most basic variations of the mascot simply standing with his hands on his hips.

Requested by IBW, this character illustration includes the mascot holding a blank sign to be used as a template for literally anything they wish to display or advertise with character.

An example of the iBeatWalmart Character Illustration in print. The mascot is used on the cover of the IBW business magazine that IBW publishes highlighting local businesses and their owners which I designed for them as well.

The last post is an example of the IBW character illustration in a branded splash page design I did for them while their social networking service was under development. A clean and unique "Coming Soon" page to display branding, twitter updates and solicit email signups.
