I Hate Laundry, the App

I Hate Laundry (IHL) was group project with my classmate Chloe Lin and part of of communications seminar class at Pratt Institute of Arts. The object of the class was to tell a story about human habits in a visual way.

After much research we realized that young people do not have any engaging and educational materials when it comes to doing laundry! They need a fun, simple and gamified way to learn using the mediums of their choice and thus, IHL was born.

IHL is a sophisticated but simple design that focuses on the flow and instructions for a humorous laundry experience that makes sense to digital natives. The screens change color from cool to warm as washing clothes changes from wash to dry. Users have the option to skip the intro and go straight to using the app or make it more personal, save unique "laundry hacks" and store their washing points.
Quizes are a green color and thus, neutral. The quizzes can be taken while waiting for laundry / drying to finish or outside of the laundry flow. Quizzes help earn points towards fun prizes. There are 3 types of quizzes: multiple choice, icon matching and complete the sentence. The harder the quiz the more points are earned!
The prizes are something you wash! But mostly they are fun, cheeky and something students would actually want to wear. They are also on brand with the app and have great potential to be part of a larger branding effort.

For some interactive fun, we ended up creating wood panels with the name of a laundry symbol on one side and the meaning of the symbol on the other. Great for group guessing games! Lazer cut setup:

The t-shirts that are the prize for scoring high in the app were also mocked up!
