Horror Books Cover Collection
Dracula - Bram Stoker
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
The Hound of The Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson
The project was based upon branding a series of book for a new Horror Collection. I chose to focus upon unusual objects in the plots of each book, objects that are not really focused upon for long but are significant. All the objects chosen had a medical connection, so I chose to represent the book covers in a very clean look.
Go into a bookshop and the horror section is decicated to the colours black and red, so my concept involved using neither of these colours to make the books stand out from the rest of the horror books. The colours of the series connects to the illustrations and the plots within the books. I.e. Frankenstein is a 'rotten flesh' colour as the monster is always considered green when he is described as more of a yellow.
Each of the illustrations has a small cut out from the cover, which reveals the actual colour of the book underneath. This cut out element connects with the medical theme, and how these objects reveal a small clue to the plot.
Inside the dust jacket on the front endpage is a perferated bookmark, to collect or use within the book.
