Each year Hopworks, a Portland-based craft beer company, brews an estate ale using hops grown exclusively for their beers on San Juan Island. The name Pig War commemorates the confrontation in 1859 between American and British authorities over San Juan Island. We interpreted this battle through "Juan Juar-Pig", the tattooed veteran of this fabled assault. His hidden tattoos can be seen if you hold the empty bottle up to a light source.
