Hong Kong Science Museum multitouch installation

In early 2011 Uberact were contacted by OnActivity about creating a multitouch game for the HK Science Museum. This would be our first government contract as well as working with OnActivity; a company that has repeatedly proved themselves to be a world class player in the Digital Signage market.

OnActivity used local designers to come up with the concept and overall look of the game. We were able to give the design our own influence by bringing the black hole to life which we did with a combination of shaders and an animation programmed in VVVV. The physics engine was engineered in Box2D which gives great control over 2D objects within games and other effects. Thanks to Box2D the gravity pull from the black hole on the electric cannon balls was very simple to do.

OnActivity are based in Hong Kong which added an extra dimension to the project as we are London based. The time difference became noticeable in the final stages of the project when both the UK team from Uberact and the HK team from OnActivity needed to be on hand to test and make changes. The project is now live, if you’re in Hong Kong head to the HK Science Museum and check it out!
