The brief was to create an environment that will invite people into the richness and depth of the Honda or- ganistaion and its future ambitions. The outcome was supposed to leave Honda being viewed as a valuable company that soceity wants to exist.

My idea was to write a poem, starting with the orogin of Honda, namely with Soichiro himself. I wanted to capture the spirit and warmth of the organistaion, and delve into the story of it’s past. I felt that poetry and supporting visuals was the perfect medium to connect with it’s audience.

Ad this is designed to be a structural design piece, I decided to split the poem into sub sections, along with imagery supporting each section. These collective segmets will be printed on glass, seperately and hung in sequence so that when they are viewed front on they build up and create a feeling of depth that cannot be achieved by flat printing. I also feel that due to the timeline-esqu nature of the poem, the building up of the imagery adds to the feeling that is generated.

I have titled the poem “The Future of Change”

The Poem;

It was 1906
A normal day it would seem
When born was a boy
In his heart was a dream

As the boy grew
Mind and spirit alike
The one thing he loved 
Was the works of his bike

But was this enough
His mind began to wander
This boy with the dream
Was Soichiro Honda

One day he took his old bike
And a hot water bottle
Rebuilt them together
And added a throttle

Thus the start of his dream
And his inventive streak
But there’s much more to Honda
On the road to it’s peak

The products they grew
In style and performance
But with love and respect
For the planets endurance

With their earthly duties
At the core of their mind
Honda search for solutions
To the problems they find

Could it be better
They challenge the notion
Can we make fabric
From the earth or the ocean

Honda capture the energy
From the sun into glass
they are making new fuel types
Using hydrogen gas

From the problem playground
To the innovative end
They are the future of change
Not the followers of trend

So what started with a dream
And a whole lot of trying
Turned into our good friend Honda
Upon which the world is relying
