Holiday Gold is the beginning of a project that looks at the holiday and tourism industry.
We are often invited to a fantasy, enticed by the photographs that depict a lush paradise.
In Poetics of Space, Bachelard discusses the intimate nature of home and the connection to experience and the human psyche, this series of work looks underneath the surface of paradise, outside the holiday industry. While these spaces are inhabited and therefore according to Bachelard "bear the essence of the notion of home", they are a facade, unlike nests or shells are not a place of security and comfort to withdraw to. Instead we find ourselves holidaying in 'paradise' and happy to return home.
This particular series was photographed in Australia's Gold Coast.
