We will be honest, when we first got the call about the possibility of working with Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 on his new clothing line excited would be an understatement. Names like that would be considered the 'Big Leagues' as far as clients go and rightfully so. If you were a youth of the past ten or fifteen years, played in a band, and got kicked off of property for skateboarding then you know the name Mark Hoppus very well.
Then the what-if scenarios began to creep in. What if the project is too much to handle? What if he's an ego maniac? What if he's about to pull a Garth Brooks ala Chris Gaines switch up on the world and we would be responsible for making that vision kick ass? Well rest assured absolutely none of that was or even remotely came true. From day one the vibe with Mark Hoppus and Forefathers was just there.
Mark and his ever so savvy wife, Skye, approached us to help build the vision for his new clothing line, Hi My Name is Mark. Starting with the identity and brand we would be exploring the initial foundation along with exploring different print material types such as hang tags, sewn tags, bags, hats, tees, custom types and displays for each.
Starting with a very specific iconic vision he wanted to use the octopus as the main symbology for the brand. Exploring many different variants and types of octopi we swam the depths of possibilities until we landed on just the right one for the brand.
All work done for the HMNIM brand has been some of the most enjoyable work we have ever been apart of. Watching it be presented to adoring fans of Mark's and watching these masses embrace good design is why we got into this profession. We can't wait to see what more HMNIM has in it's back pocket and we have a feeling it's here to stay.
