Hexo Garden is a project exploring the possibilities of a modular multi-function planter. Working under direction from the Wellington City Council, the project aimed to improve public housing outdoor areas throughout the Wellington region.

The Hexo Garden includes box planters for plants and small vegetable gardens, removable seating and empty modular boxes to give height to the garden.

Observational research led to the conceptualisation of triangular shaped box modules that can be stacked to create garden and seating areas within a confined space. This modular system meant the public housing users could manipulate the overall form of the Hexo Garden, whether it be an open seating arrangement or a private one, surrounded in planter boxes.
