Heshima Kenya is a non-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya. They serve orphaned and unaccompanied refugee children by arranging foster care services, running a Safe House and teaching adolescent girls vocational skills.
In September of 2007, I was asked to design their website in only 4 days, in order for it to be ready for a fundraiser. With lots of determination and caffeinated tea I was able to design and build a functioning site by this tight deadline. Each section of the site is headlined with a highly contrasted black and white photo. Great care was also taken to conceal the identity of the children to avoid exploitation. The orange navigation bar is to represent the African horizon.
Following my initial design, I was asked to be the site's Webmaster. I now maintain the site and periodically make updates as needed. Over the last year I have also made many design enhancements including dynamic navigation and Flash elements.
