The breif: to create a peice of editorial design of your choice.
The concept: A backpackers magazine made to look like it has been made "on the road"
The solution: I decided to create a backpackers magazine that is aimed at young travellers between the ages of 18 - 30 who are fashion and design conscious. The main concept behind the magazine is the fact that it is written and made by backpackers whilst they travel.
By using low-tech equipment and techniques such as lomo cameras, scanners, and collage, I have created a magazine with a distinctive and orginal aesthetic.
The cover & band: I decided to use a band as I didn't want to take away from the front image. The main inspiration was fiight tickets & depature boards.
The band itself has perforated edges that allow the reader to tear it off like a ticket, to gain access to the magazine.
Typography: The magazine uses 3 different font families.
News Gothic which is primarilly used for the headings, is clean, simple and without decoration.
OCR which has a rough appearance due to it's sharp edges and jerking curves.
American Typewriter to emphasise the low-tech nature of the magazine.
