Hennepin County Plymouth Library Structural Study
- Hennepin County Plymouth Library Structural Study
Fall 2011 - Assignment: Study the structure of the Hennepin County Plymouth Library, designed by BTR Architects in 2010. Build a large scale model and a set of detail drawings to further understand the structure.
Through modeling and the creation of AutoCAD documents, I was able to understand structural and sustainable design elements and practices. This library has a steel frame and glass curtain wall system. Steel trusses on the ceiling and in the walls allow the interior to have an large, open plan. The building has many sustainable qualities, such as a green roof, raised floor ventilation system, and insulated corrugated glass.
*The model was a combined effort with one partner.
- *detail of continuous footing
*visual comparison of model and actual structure
*layout of project presentation boards (includes original photographs, AutoCAD drawings, SketchUp model, and analysis)- Assignment part 2: Create detailed AutoCAD drawings depicting structural elements of the building. These drawings help inform the larger structural model.
These drawings helped inform some of the prominent details of the large scale model, such as the roof, corner, wall, and foundation.
*Detailed plan and section drawings depicting area of library that was included in the model
