Heineken® Limited Edition Design Challenge 2012 - TOP 3

In anticipation of 140th anniversary Heineken® invited creative talents from all around the world to come together through social media, design their vision for the future Heineken® bottle and connect their design with someone else's. Each connected pair of designs enters the competition to become the next Limited Edition bottle. The winning bottle - made up of two connected designs - will be part of an exclusive, 140th anniversary Limited Edition pack, available around the world from December 2012.

The judging panel consists of Evan Orensten, Co-founder and Executive Editor of Cool Hunting, Mark Dytham, Co-founder of global creative network, PechaKucha, and Mark van Iterson, Global Head of Design at Heineken®.

Mark van Iterson said: "Since we first launched Heineken in 1873, our premium beer has continued to bring people together over social occasions. So, what better way to inspire the design for our future bottle than to tap into exciting world of social connectivity? The Limited Edition challenge provides the opportunity for anyone to discover their ultimate creative match and design a unique part of Heineken's future.

There were more than 30,000 entries from more than 100 countries!

After 100 finalists had been chosen, an International Judging Panel gathered in a special pop up gallery in New York to select three finalist designs that would go through to the next stage of Limited Edition Design Challenge. Thus, Heineken® has shortlisted three iconic bottle designs to go through to the final stage of the challenge. The shortlisted design pairs:

Design 1: Rodolfo Kusulas of Monterry, Mexico & Lee Dunford of Sydney, Australia.
Design 2: Ray Muniz of Ponce, Puerto Rico & Gusztav Tomcsanyi of Budapest, Hungary.
Design 3: Stefan Pilipović of Belgrade, Serbia & Fabio Cianciola of Bari, Italy.
My design, along with my partner's got into the TOP 3. It is an honor for me to be one of the 6 designers chosen from around the world to be in Limited Edition Design Challenge finals for the future bottle!

The challenge was to design a bottle that symbolizes how people will connect in the next 140 years. The thing is I've never had any previous contact with my design partner until we were connected by Heineken® after the entry. But when you look at our designs you can see they share the same motives, idea, energy and story behind it, there is a connection between them.

I don't know how people will connect in the next 140 years, but one thing will remain the same-life. My design shows the energy and flow of people's lives, who's differences are presented with colorful lines, it doesn't have a beginning or end. You can imagine a bottle as a magnifying glass over the strings of life, that can infinitely zoom without ever reaching the end.

Like the designs, this competition made connections-friendships. It was a wonderful experience for me. I had an opportunity to meet some really cool people and work with great Mark van Iterson, talk to the judges about my work and share opinions. I hope this will inspire you to create, share and connect with other people through art all around the world, the planet is our playground!
