  • HARMONY (kMOD)
    An Harmony modification.
  • I guess a lot of you already know Harmony, a procedural drawing software developed by Mr.doob; it's an online tool available for free and source code is provided too. Harmony (kMOD) is my modification of this software, made for adding features I needed when working with it.

A list of new features (as of release 0.6) :

    Break!
breaks the tool session so that you stop interacting with previous strokes Save+alpha : saves your image with a transparent background

    New GUI
a new dark skin : a numeric indicator of the current brush size

    New brushes
nervous; rake (the rake brush also has custom size control)

    New shortcuts
the new shortcut D sets colors back to default and the digits from 1 to 0 are setting the opacity in 10% steps; I also added shortcuts for my new tools and for existing ones and changed some old shortcuts.

    Removed Wacom support
Wacom released the web plugin only for Windows & Mac and they said they have no plans about doing it for Linux, I thus removed all of the Wacom stuff from my Harmony mod (I need it to behave the same on Linux,Win&Mac)

    Removed touch support
I removed all touch-screen support since I only plan to use this mod on desktop.

I find that Harmony (kMOD) is a great tool for exploring ideas and creating fast protoypes for illustrations; it works especially good for mecha and similar stuff, because the brushes are helping defining volumes quite fast. With my new BREAK! tool it becomes easier to draw in perspective since it's possible to control the line interactions that are happening in useful brushes like Shaded and Sketchy.

Here are some samples of fast Harmony (kMOD) sketches :

Here is a another example of rapid thumbnail sketching : first a rough pseudo-casual idea, then a sketch with more details and finally a very basic shading of the concept:

  • All the artworks shown on this project were created by me using Harmony (kMOD). Harmony (kMOD) is my modification of Harmony based on the source code kindly released by Mr.doob. Pay a visit to his website, he's quite a genius :)
