My first fully completed comic . Based on the Grimm fairytale Hansel and Gretel, I completed this my junior year at SVA in 2011. The story is broken down into two parts that take place within the last 24 hours of the children's captivity with the witch. My idea was to extend the theme of isolation by removing the two children until the last panel. The first half of the story focuses on Gretel and her captivity with the witch. Held hostage and knowing her brother is to die will she find the strength inside her self to escape and be free? Told in the second person, I was paying homage to the classic EC horor comics and the master cartoonist Bernie Krigtein. While the layout was in refrence to old gothic picture books. In the second half we follow Hansel who has been locked in the dark and undergone the torture of solitary confinement. Broken down to a state of exhaustion he begins to have a conversation with one of the ghosts of the dead children.
