A flyer campaign for The Hague's oldest animal shelter.  How to support a non-profit organisation?

 

In Haags Dierencentrum, the staff and a lot of volunteers are taking care of about 2000 cats and dogs per year. Due to the difficult financial situation of the shelter and in order to guarantee the well being of the animals, they organise regularly different campaigns. In cooperation with the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals, a campaign in supermarkets was initiated, for which a flyer had to be created. The flyer on which clients were asked to buy little things that the shelter needs in daily life, was distributed at the entrance of supermarkets.

 

Instead of using pictures of animals in difficult situations, I thought to create attention through drawings of animals. My first pencil sketch of a rabbit was not strong enough, the lines were too fragile for my purpose. Therefore I took a softer pencil and put more pressure. I drew some more animals, which were afterwards colored digitally. The colors of the animals had to be neutral in opposite to the strong corporate colors of the animal shelter.
