For our first project in 4th year we were asked to create the next generation website,
what we would like to see in the future of web design.
The concept of the design itself is a new method of social networking. We live in a
world where socialising has become digital - many of us spend our days wasting away in
front of Facebook, twitter, etc. HUD is a concept that makes use of a Heads Up Display to
be worn by the individual. Imagine walking into a meeting, classroom, party, bar, subway
station, airplane, etc. and seeing profile information about other people in the area,
depending on privacy settings.
In order to visualise a truly unique web design, I decided to break down todays average
website and start from a blank canvas. I wanted my design to be different, I wanted it to
have an eye-catching interface, while at the same time not sacrifice any functionality.
After a great deal of research I started experimenting with the idea of a 360 degree
panoramic image as the homepage, which could be rotated by mouse movements.
I greatly enjoyed this project as it allowed me to put my abilities to the test. In order to
complete my design I had to use a massive range of software; Flash, Photoshop,
Illustrator, After Effects, Ableton Liveand Dreamweaver. Not only did this brief test my
technical abilities, it also helped improve my concept development, scriptwriting,
storyboard and presentation skills
