Gabrielle’s work is essentially about the paint; thedesire to immerse herself in nature; movement and stillness; light; and time.
Her latest body of work captures landscapes from a speeding car, conveying movement in an otherwise still environment and questioning theuncertainty and contradictions of reality and the balance between risk andcontrol.
“My work emerges from a thwarted desire to immerse myself in nature. Asa city dweller, most of my contact with the landscape is from within the carand through the lens of my camera – and the work reflects this. Whilst theimages are embedded in nature, my practice is concerned with an exploration ofpaint – the processes by which it has an ability to elicit the sense of air, lightand energy of movement through the Australian landscape.”
