GESTOS
Street Art Project

After the media bombing with the crisis, the misfortunes surrounding us and the chats ‘til late, I reached a conclusion. My brain was filled with complains, irony and smart attention calls. We needed some pointless positivity in Barcelona, and if something has to I wanted to find a message that could reach anybody who wanted to see it, that exclude nobody and, most of all, didn’t talk about any specific problem. A message with such good vibes that it will make you smile and cheer your mornings up, not wanting to save the world or tell people what to do or what lo believe.

Urban art was the perfect medium, as it turns the city into a game. The corners hide surprises, the roofs become roads, you look up and the city is moving at a different rythm.
Anyone can see it, although not everybody does. It’s a present for your neighbors and your two cents for culture. The message had to be universal, positive and cheerful. Hands cheering you up in the streets and wishing you good luck with a gesture that speaks for itself. It was fast, easy, 100% positive and with good vibes.
The fluorescent colour also relates to the positivity and the easy going vibe. Because it doesn’t have to hide from anything, just wants to get the attention of the passer-by.

While I was making the different hands in plaster, I took pictures and videos of the process, and published it in a blog so anyone could follow the action, or even repeat it.
once the hand was glued on a wall, the adress of the blog was painted with an stencil next to it. In the blog you could also find a list with different places in Barcelons where you could find a free fanzine about Gestos.
This was written in Spanish and English, and it included a map with detailed information to find them on the street.
