- Gestalt Effect (Pasadena Ver)Gestalt psychology or gestaltism (German: Gestalt – "essence or shape of an entity's complete form") is a theory of mind and brain of the Berlin School; the operational principle of gestalt psychology is that the brain is holistic, parallel, and analog, with self-organizing tendencies. The principle maintains that the human eye sees objects in their entirety before perceiving their individual parts, suggesting the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Gestalt psychology tries to understand the laws of our ability to acquire and maintain stable percepts in a noisy world. Gestalt psychologists stipulate that perception is the product of complex interactions among various stimuli.
- Still don't get Gestaltism ?
For example, When you see shape of left, do u think 4 circles and sqaure on the top of them ? Or do you think there are shapes looks like a picture on the right ?
- People tend to interpret familiar, incomplete forms as complete by filling in gaps.
- This project was that I have to take interesting photos of typefaces from city of Pasadena using Gestaltism, so that people can see more of typefaces as a shape not letters. If you concentrate shapes not letter itself, you can more feel playful textures and various colors from letters around you which you normally pass by.
