Genius Loci - Railway

For this project I was asked to produce a piece of work which defined my take on the genius loci of a place of my choosing. Due to personal attachment and a its relation to my efforts within my love life I chose to focus on Winchester Train Station.

The graphic I created is intended to represent the limitlessness of the place. Creating my own take on the infinity logo I represented the way in which all aspects of the place bring with them limitless opportunity. Limitless people, limitless directions and most of all, limitless emotions. The are some subtitles within the design too. The yellow background graphic serves 2 purposes. The primary image is the two parallel lines which represent the train gates themselves; creating a void in between the lines which represents the platform. The two lines also come together to form a part of the UK's National Rail logo so work as a direct reference to the source of the design.
Due to the way in which point of view affects the perception of the stations genius loci I decided to come up with a way in which view point can be conveyed within the design. Projecting the graphic into the corner of a from creates multiple points of perspective. The origin of the projection represents my personal view point while any other place within the room offers the opportunity to view the genius loci from an alternate perspective.

The result of this projection was some quite striking images that created an more abstract visual than the one I had originally created. I then created a layout of these images, presented along side the original design and these were exhibited together in my University's Graphic Art's show.
