The senior Capstone project is the sum of an art student's imagination, creativity, talent and knowledge gained. It is one of, if not the most important art piece a university student can bring to completion. At the end of the academic year at my university, all art seniors are allowed to submit a work of art to the senior exhibition. "Gaia Killing Ares" is my piece - a photo manipulation formed from my own personal photographs.
When planning "Gaia," I wanted to incorporate a theme into the work. I chose the theme "Rebirth" because of the year, 2012, and the spirituality that is attached to it. The image depicts nature reclaiming a bombed-out World War 2-era warehouse (photo taken in Berlin, Germany) and destroying an over-grown statue-like figure of an American World War 2 soldier.
