This poster was created for my Beginning Typography class at San Jose State University. The assignment required studying one well-known typeface and creating an informative poster. The poster needed to explain the history of the typeface without being boring, and it had to highlight a defining feature of the typeface.
I chose Futura and decided to focus on the strong geometric shapes in the Futura letterforms. Futura’s VWXYZ all highlight the strong and sharp diagonal lines of Futura’s letters. By overlapping the letters and blowing them up to an overwhelming size, I sought to emphasize both the similar overall shapes, as well as the slight differences in angle and stroke width.
