I was asked by this salon to help them upgrade and update their online presence. Prior to my time with them, the site had been designed, created, and maintained by a programmer who cobbled together a site that had a terrible CMS. There was no way they could update their information. The design had nothing to do with the salon owners' sensibility or with the image they projected on the premises.
I created an information architecture and talked with them about a basic social media strategy. They didn't need a detailed strategy as the strength of a good salon is always found in the way it interacts with its clients. Word of mouth still counts for a lot. Social media merely amplifies it.
As I was there only in the capacity as an IA and project manager, I told them that they would need, and found for them a design firm (Picirilli Dorsey) that became their agency of record to oversee the website and all their other web-related needs. The firm took my work (there were only two iterations) and refined it further, resulting in the design presented here.
