Friday Night Live is the improv comedy arm of Everett Company, Stage and School, a Providence arts organization made up of a variety of performers from around the city. The troupe is well versed in basic and music improv and the performers range from high school students to adults in their 50s. While there were many different images that could have been used for this card, the client decided on a a fairly quiet picture of two of the performers.
This is one of those cases of pulling something together from very little. It was my job to add a little visual interest to the image and make the card pop out in public. To get the youth vote, I latched on to the current late 80s/early 90s trend in music and fashion and used black with a super bright pink and green (think Day-Glo). Everett is also in the process of rebranding. So I mimicked the three horizontals from the capitol "E" in their new logo to subtly call back to their new branding. Again, by putting these lines at an angle, it gave it a little more pop and visual appeal.
