    “GREAT LENGTHS”

5:30AM. THE SUBURBS. AN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN IN A MINIVAN IS DROPPING OFF HER 11-YEAR-OLD SON AT A RANDOM PLACE.

MOM:     Are you sure you don’t want me to…

KID:    (Cutting her off) Here’s fine, Mom.

MOM:     Ok, have a good day, honey.

THE KID TAKES HIS BACKPACK, GETS OUT AND STARTS WALKING.

CUT TO THE KID CROSSING A VERY LONG BRIDGE. THE SUN IS COMING UP.

CUT TO THE KID CROSSING A CREEK. HE JUMPS FROM STONE TO STONE, WITH THE BORED FACE OF SOMEONE WHO’S BEEN DOING IT FOR A LONG TIME.

CUT TO THE KID WALKING THROUGH A CHINATOWN’S FISH MARKET, SUFFERING ALL KIND OF UNPLEASANT SMELLS. AS HE WALKS BY, MANY VENDORS GREET HIM OR CALL HIS NAME. ONE VENDOR HANDS HIM A WEIRD LOOKING FISH SNACK. HE PUTS IT IN HIS BACKPACK.

CUT TO THE KID WALKING ALONG A CITY STREET. HE LOOKS AT HIS WATCH AND AUTOMATICALLY DUCKS JUST IN TIME TO AVOID A NEWSPAPER BEING THROWN AT A HOUSE. BUT JUST WHEN HE THOUGT HE WAS SAFE, A SECOND NEWSPAPER HITS HIM IN THE HEAD.

CUT TO THE KID CHASING A GARBAGE TRUCK. A BIG GUY RIDING IN THE BACK REACHES TO TRY TO HELP HIM GET ON, BUT THE KID MISSES IT.

CUT TO THE KID TRESPASSING A WOODEN FENCE. HE IMMEDIATELY STARTS RUNNING FULL SPEED AS WE SEE A BIG DOG CHASE HIM. HE BARELY MAKES IT SAFE TO THE OTHER SIDE, BUT HE RIPS HIS PANTS WHILE JUMPING THE FENCE. PANTING, HE TURNS AROUND AND THROWS THE FISH SNACK TO THE DOG.

CUT TO THE FRUSTRATED KID NOW IN FRONT OF A PARK. AS HE WALKS ALONG THE METAL FENCE, HE DRAGS A WOODEN STICK AGAINST IT TO DISTURB A SMALL GROUP OF ELDERLY PEOPLE PRACTICING YOGA.

CUT TO THE KID FINALLY ABOUT TO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL. AT THAT MOMENT, WE SEE A GORGEOUS 2013 FORD ESCAPE PASSING BY HIM AND PULLING OVER IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. WE SEE ANOTHER AFRICAN AMERICAN KID COMING OUT OF THE CAR WITH A PROUD SMILE ON HIS FACE.

CUT TO OUR KID WATCHING THE SCAPE DRIVE AWAY. HE SIGHS.
