In 2008 I worked as part of team of two to redesign Flickr’s member
homepage. The goals of the project were: increase site engagement,
welcome and guide new users, increase visibility of activity from the
user’s friends and groups, and surface interesting areas of Flickr
that the typical user didn't know about.
After a short research and requirements definition phase, we
conducted 3 week-long sprints. During these we used design principles to focus collaborative brainstorming with the Flickr team, sketch ideas, gather feedback, then create wireframes within 5 days. In this way we gradually fleshed
out a final homepage redesign while incorporating regular input from the
Flickr team.
The design was implemented later that year and, as of May 2012, millions of Flickr members still use it today.
