PROBLEM Redesign the advertising campaign and promotional materials for an event held at the IU Auditorium. The end product must be documented in a process booklet – a bound record of the step-by-step process used to achieve the end design and product.
SOLUTION The end result was an identity that reflected the overall philosophy and psychedelic nature associated with The Flaming Lips' music and their surreal concert experience. Using experimental letterpress techniques with mineral spirits and ink, an effect was achieved that captured the spirit of the artists' music. The identity was then carried throughout the design of the promotional materials including posters, t-shirts, and door hangers that could be passed out in student dorms.*
* Union Board, a student run organization, sponsored the event. A portion of every student's tuition goes towards Union Board, which is used to bring artists, speakers, and performers to Indiana University. Read Less
