Festival Beshekel, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2001 by a group of artists and activists for social change, led by the prominent Israeli musician Sha`anan Streett (of Hadag Nachash). The founders of Festival Beshekel had a vision to combat cultural impoverishment in Israel`s periphery.
Festival Beshekel is working to promote art and culture in peripheral areas of Israel out of the belief that culture is a universal right regardless of economic status.
The price of admission to each one of Festival Beshekel’s activities is one shekel which enables all sectors of Israeli society, regardless of religion or social economic status, access to the richness of our local culture.
