Felslamp
for architectenbureau Kühne & Co
This zinc lampshade is made using the traditional zinc seaming technique, which you might recognize from zinc rooftops.
For the creation of this lampshade I worked together with Peter Slegers, meester in Felstechniek in Beek en Donk, the Netherlands. Who actually took me up as it's student so I could learn the seaming technique.
The lampshade is fully hand crafted out of zinc plate.
My aim was to create a modern looking design using a handcraft, showing craftmanship doesn't have tobe dusty or old fashioned. And to show that you can create the most incredible details that are the material and technique it's own which modern techniques of today will not be able to equal.
I looked for the contrast between industrial processes and hadcraft, which also defined the shape of the lampshade; a industrial looking shape, but still handcrafted.

The Felslamp is part of the lightplan designed for architectenbureau Kühne&Co in Rotterdam.
The zinc of the Felslamp resambles the back wall of the architectbureau.
