Fantastico is the name of one of Brazil's oldest and biggest Sunday TV shows. It's an entertainment and news magazine that takes the biggest share of prime time TV audience. Most of us in our 30's grew up with it and had the chance of seeing many international attractions for the first time through their broadcast.
But the internet came crashing down and they had to catch up somehow. Even though the web still has a long way to go until it offers TV real competition, there was no reason for the show to shut down the world wide web from its set of attractions. So, they started a special segment called "Virtual Detective", presented by the always humorous Tadeu Schmidt, bringing to TV some internet curiosities.
It was on this section of the program that we had our chance to be a part of this gigantic piece of our own formation. Thanks to our comedic efforts on Zuare Comedia's channel, we were invited for an interview and to do a little production for the piece.
- After this participation, we were contacted a while later, this time with some comissions for audio pieces concerning the traditional end of the year salutations by Rede Globo, done by their cast of actors, actresses and sports celebs.
We were asked to turn these messages into music, using our Melodyne tecniques.
- By the time we were reaching Carnaval, Brazil's biggest popular celebration, we were called once again to do a smaller piece, making the "puxadores" (lead singers of each competing samba ensembles) sing using the same tecniques previously enforced.
- Then it came our biggest challenge yet. To honour 20 years of one of the greatest hits on brazilian popular music, "É o amor" by duo Zezé de Camargo & Luciano, we were asked to turn several acapella pieces, from famous singers and also street fans, into one seamless rendition of the song.
We received the backing track and a huge bunch of videos and we carefully constructed this jigsaw, by redesigning tempo and pitch with time stretching tools and Melodyne, since each singer had their own pace and tone of choice. We also promised showcasing all the artists that contribuited to the homage, making the task much harder.
This is how it was presented on the show, to the original artists.
- And here's our raw full version, showing which artists did which part, synched with the final audio produced. This was used as a guide to the show's video editors.
