The objective of this project was to redesign the Fan Pier in Boston. I chose to create a disillusionment of the rectangular pier. This allows for people and boats to interact with the experiential qualities of the site. The contrast between being engulfed by structure and being in open space allows for varied experiences of immersion in the city and water. Visually, the skyline of the city and waves in water follow an undulating pattern. This pattern creates an experiential connection and energy between the city, the site and the sea. The open space and water surrounding the Fan Pier are appealing contrasts from the city and are alluring natural elements. In plan and section I explored the push and pull of different components to the site such as the pier, dock, water and land.
