FLEETWOOD SCULPTURE GARDEN

  • FLEETWOOD SCULPTURE GARDEN
Fleetwood Garden Artist Call Proposal, Surrey, 2012
  • I was drawn to the site because of how the potential art piece can animate the space. The existing space is very formal and predominantly fosters linear circulation. The specific site of the installation reminded me of roundabouts - it does little less than hinge the path of circulation into another direction. I want to use a sculptural intervention to enhance the roundabout condition, by a slowing down of circulation. The proposed sculpture itself is inspired by the interlocking of clock gears. It is a series of revolving seats. As revolving seats line up, they can form a bench, though they may be configured in any number of different ways to invite different types of occupation. This proposal will provide a gathering space in the park and invite a variety of activities - reading a book, conversation between friends, or simply an interaction with the sculpture.
