Exploring Patterns

This work was done by me for a textile course. Despite being an illustration and VC student, I had this sudden urge to do something new and I signed up for a textile repeat course. Which did eventually tell me a few things about myself, I really enjoyed working with patterns and had immediately started to inculcate textures and patterns into my illsutration style.

I looked at this challenge as an experiment. Summer was the paradigm for the final creation. When I think of summers, I am always reminded of the sunny day and the flowery bloom that surrounds me. There is something visually overpowering about the flowers that bloom in the summer. My mum bought me a Crysnthemum one summer, my first plant. A plant I was to take care of. This memory had always been engraved in my mind since I was a child, and led me to choose the Crysanthemum as my inspiration.

exploring two different placememnts.
Iteration for the same pattern but in winter tones, making it possible to use it even as a winter pattern.
Using the second motif I created another set of patterns: (images below)
This pattern took a different direction for me, and it made me feel like I was trying to adapt a more earthy feel.

This exercise also enhanced my illustration style. It taught me a lot about textural values.
