Expedia San Diego Rich Media Ad on the Homepage
Rich media ads were
introduced on Expedia homepage in 2009. The San Diego rich media ad was a
simple interactive flash slide show ad that was innovative and the first of its
kind in the travel industry. This ad was designed and its functionality tweaked
after it was tested in the lab for a few weeks. The rich media ads
pop's open and expands when a user rollers over in the hot spot with the mouse.
Since it is user initiate interaction, it can be targeted well and all the rich
audio/videos and interactions can lead to a great experience for the customer.
San Diego rich media
ad was a great success, it had a huge click through rate of 4%, and it resulted
in increased conversion too. This ad also won a few awards in the travel category.
I designed the rich media ad and also managed the relationship the the ad serving company. I also wrote the complete creative guidelines documents for this product.
