"In the “Back to the Don River” exhibition, after seventy years we have made an important step forward in abandoning ideological interpretations of the past, to progress towards a more accurate historic representation of events. When taking on this project, the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino chose to seek the collaboration of prestigious Russian institutions and important museums operating in our province, the Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra in Rovereto and the Museo Nazionale Storico degli Alpini in Trento, and in this it was successful. […] We have chosen to widen our viewpoint for this journey back into history. Before documenting the retreat and the painful experience of the prisoners, we have reconstructed the characteristics of the war, examining the forces and means deployed, the plans of the occupying forces and the response of the occupied territories.
